The iconic brand of luxury stores New York wants to turn more to the androgyny that we have been seeing for years. Its new campaign does not have or with expensive media nor the most young and attractive models. The final casting are 17 transgender models.
Bruce Weber is the one who has been commissioned to photograph the campaign in New York. Familiar images in black and white where not sexuality beyond labels and social conventions.
The models are: Arin Andrews, Charles Edie, Hingh Valentijn, Ashley de la Cruz, Sawyer Devuyst, Pêche Di, Dezjorn Gauthier, Trevon Haynes, Katie Hill, Eve Lindley, Niki M’nray, Ryley Pogensky, Ines Rau, May Simon, Ahya Taylor, Maxie Neu, and Gisele Xtravaganza.
The campaign is called”Brothers, Sisters, Sons & Daughters”. Very beautiful images as which see the kiss between Treven and Ryley with Maxie Neue in the middle. Own signature claims to be “proud to support the community transgender counting some of their amazing stories”.
Alongside the campaign Barneys has dedicated a section on their website where it picks up the stories of these models together with their families. In it you can read interviews conducted by Patricia Bosworth to each of the models discover where the discrimination that many of them have suffered in their lives.
A way which give a voice to a community often attacked at the time that Barneys gets Medal of social marketing and manages to be news. At least is in a positive way and not with mannequins that gets pubic hair.
