According to ezinereligion, in 2007, Barbados had an estimated population of over 270,000 people, composed of multiple ethnic groups including Afro-Caribbean and Indo-Caribbean. The official language was English. The economy was largely based on services and industry, as well as tourism. In terms of foreign relations, Barbados had close ties with its neighbors in the region such as Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica. It also maintained diplomatic relations with several other countries such as the United States, Canada and the UK. Politically, Barbados was a parliamentary democracy led by Prime Minister Owen Arthur from 1994 to 2008.
