According to ezinereligion, in 2007, Belize had an estimated population of over 300,000 people, composed of multiple ethnic groups including Maya, Mestizo, Creole and Garifuna. The official language was English, but Spanish and Kriol were also spoken. The economy was largely based on services and tourism, as well as exports of agricultural products. In terms of foreign relations, Belize had close ties with its neighbors in the region such as Mexico and Guatemala. It also maintained diplomatic relations with several other countries such as the United States, United Kingdom and Canada. Politically, Belize was a parliamentary democracy led by Prime Minister Said Musa since 1998 until his resignation in 2008.
