Kern County, California is located in the southern part of the state, bordered by Los Angeles, Ventura, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Barbara counties. It has a population of around 890,000 people and is home to several cities and towns including Bakersfield, Ridgecrest, Lamont, and Arvin. According to, Kern County was formed in 1866 from parts of the territories of Los Angeles and Tulare counties. It was named after Edward M. Kern who was an American surveyor working with John C. Fremont in California during the 1840s. Kern County has a rich history that dates back to the early days of Spanish colonization in California.
