According to ezinereligion, in 2007, Colombia had an estimated population of over 44 million people, composed of multiple ethnic groups including Mestizos, Afro-Colombians and Indigenous Colombians. The official language was Spanish but several other languages were also spoken. The economy was largely based on exports of oil, coffee and coal. In terms of foreign relations, Colombia had close ties with its neighbors Venezuela and Panama and maintained diplomatic relations with several other countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom and Spain. Politically, Colombia was a presidential republic led by President Alvaro Uribe since 2002 until his term ended in 2010.
