According to ezinereligion, in 2007, Ethiopia had a population of around 79 million people and its economy was largely based on agriculture. It had strong foreign relations with many countries in the region, as well as with other countries around the world. Politically, Ethiopia was a federal parliamentary republic and the government was led by Prime Minister Meles Zenawi who had been in power since 1995. Since 1991, Ethiopia had been part of the United Nations, and it joined the African Union in 2000.
