According to ezinereligion, in 2007, Kuwait had a population of 2.6 million, with an expatriate population of approximately 2.3 million. The economy was primarily based on oil exports which accounted for nearly 95% of total export revenues and 80% of government income. Kuwait's foreign relations were mainly focused on regional issues and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. In 2007, Kuwait held the rotating presidency of the GCC and hosted the annual summit in December. Politically, Kuwait had a constitutional monarchy whereby the Emir held executive authority and legislative power was vested in the unicameral National Assembly which was elected through universal suffrage for four year terms.
