According to ezinereligion, in 2007, Madagascar had a population of approximately 19.8 million people, with the majority of them being ethnic Malagasy. The economy was largely dependent on agriculture, fishing and forestry, with the main exports being coffee, vanilla and seafood. Foreign relations were generally positive in 2007; however, the country was heavily reliant on foreign aid from the United Nations and other international organizations. Politically, Madagascar was led by President Marc Ravalomanana who sought to promote economic growth and reduce poverty in the country through agricultural reforms and public works programs.
