Charlevoix County is located in the northwest corner of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. It is bordered by Lake Michigan to the west, Lake Charlevoix and Round Lake to the south, and Lake Huron to the east. The county has an estimated population of 25,000 people spread across its seven townships: Beaver Island, Boyne City, Charlevoix, East Jordan, Norwood Township, Peaine Township and Wilson Township. According to theinternetfaqs.com, the county was first settled in 1852 by a group of French Canadians who named it Charlevoix after a river in their native Quebec. The area quickly grew as settlers from all over the United States moved in to take advantage of its abundance of natural resources.
