According to ezinereligion, in 2007, Micronesia had a population of approximately 107,000 people. The majority of the population were of Melanesian descent, but there were also significant numbers of Polynesians and Micronesians. The economy was largely based on fishing, agriculture and tourism, with the country experiencing a period of economic growth during this period. Foreign relations were mostly positive, with Micronesia having strong links to other Pacific countries as well as the United States. Politically the country was relatively stable, with a multi-party system in place since independence in 1986.
