Clearwater County is located in the north-central region of Minnesota, bordered by Mahnomen and Hubbard counties to the west, Becker County to the north, and Polk County to the east. The county seat is Bagley, and its largest city is Clearbrook. The population of Clearwater County was 8,163 in 2019 according to the U.S. Census Bureau. According to theinternetfaqs.com, the area that now comprises Clearwater County was first inhabited by Ojibwe and Dakota tribes prior to European settlement. The county was officially established in 1885 from parts of Beltrami and Polk counties. It was named after nearby Clearwater Lake which had been named by an explorer for its crystal clear waters.
