Yearbook 2007 Oman. According to CountryAAH, Muscat is the capital city of Oman. Forty-nine people perished in the powerful cyclone Gonu that swept across eastern Oman on June 5. It was reportedly the most powerful tropical cyclone ever ravaged the Arabian Peninsula. Large parts of the capital Muskat were flooded and the natural gas terminal in Sur was damaged. In addition to the dead, 27 people were missing after the whirlwind. In the election to the 84 seats of the Majlis al-Shura Consultative Assembly on October 27, 38 members were re-elected and 46 new were elected.
